But what is the sound of La Cantine du Faubourg ? Well, it has travelled from our home, in Paris. Music Director, Emir, tries to explain its 15-year old history, how it adpats to the restaurant’s video environment and, of course, the savvy mix of guests we welcome here in Dubai.
“La Cantine du Faubourg in Paris has a strong musical identity. It can be summed up in three words : eclectic, elegant and edgy. We can shift from a Brazilian bossa, to pop-rock hits, French songs (yes, in case you forgot, we are French!). La Cantine du Faubourg is where Serge Gainsbourg meets Kayne West, Claptone, Jimi Hendrix and George Michael.
‘Expect the unexpected’. This could be our moto. The element of surprise talks back to thevideos projected on the white walls of the restaurant. When the vintage ‘Soul Train’ video is playing, we will switch to soul, funk and jump to Daft Punk, Pharrel. When the ‘Super Hero’ video flies in, a stronger beat is most likely to kick in with Bon Jovi, for example.
So there you have it, the sound of La Cantine du Faubourg adapts to its visual, moving-picture environment. But mostly, it adapts to the mood of the restaurant. Surely, deep lounge will crawl into the after-work hours of Apéritif, then the beat will intensify as the night gets going and till people start dancing around the tables after dinner.
Depending on the generations present we create an ambience to surprise guests with unknown artists, but also bring them down memory lane with the greatest hits from the 70’s to today… the soundtrack of your life and the beat goes on ! And, once people start getting up on their feet, La Cantine du Faubourg truly stands for what it is : a place always in movement, from lights to videos, to people eating and dancing… a place of life !”
